Synth and Software, November 2020
About this Month’s Cover
There’s nothing like a piano, except for a painting of one or a sampled one.
This month’s cover is in the former category, and it’s by Dr. Ulrich Batzdorf. We’re featuring it because software pianos are the backbone of almost every musician’s instrument arsenal. They blend perfectly with synths and every other instrument, and the ear never tires of them.
Of course, the ideal is a well-maintained acoustic piano that’s perfectly in tune, recorded well in a great room. But those are big and expensive caveats, and in fact, most of the excellent plug-in pianos available today have it all over an acoustic piano that falls short in either area.
