Symplesound Pays Tribute to Kraftwerk’s Florian Schneider with a Free Sample Pack

Sound designer and EM editor-at-large Francis Preve announces Honoring Florian, a free download from Symplesound.

Honoring Florian is a tribute to Kraftwerk’s cofounder Florian Schneider, who passed away last month at the age of 73. The downloadable collection is a custom sample pack containing three components. First is a project file compatible with all versions of Ableton Live 10.1 and higher. And yes, that includes the streamlined budget edition, Live Intro.

Next is a kit and pattern for the Roland’s sample-playback drum machine, the TR-8S Rhythm Performer. This content is compatible with all TR-8S models and includes instructions for loading via a required SD card.

And finally, you’ll also get a collection of 18 WAV loops that Francis derived from the Ableton and TR-8S patterns. That means you can use them in any DAW or sample-playback software. Honoring Florian is available for download now from the Symplesound website.

In Tribute

Francis explains why he created Honoring Florian: “As with Prince, Kraftwerk was one of my primary influences as a young artist getting into electronic music. It’s not a stretch to say that Florian Schneider helped create the template for much of the electronic music we listen to today, so I wanted to honor his legacy with this free pack for the fans. What’s most striking about Kraftwerk’s music is that from Autobahn (1974) to Tour De France (1983), nearly all of their drum sounds were created using analog synths and sequencers, not drum machines. So the drums in these packs were also synthesized in my studio, then sampled and used to create the libraries.”

Major Savings on All Symplesounds

Symplesound has also permanently lowered the prices for all their previous products by 50% across the board. The Analog and FM collections are now $9.99, and the Operator pack is down from $29.99 to $19.99. What’s more, signing up for Symplesound’s mailing list will get you a promo code for an additional 20% off. That discount lowers prices to as little as $7.99.

Watch+ Learn

In addition, Francis launched his educational Watch+Learn series in April. These are blink-and-you’ll-miss-it video tutorials for Phase Plant, Serum, and of course, Ableton. These brief videos are aimed at beginners and intermediate synthesists. Watch one-minute tutorials for creating iconic timbres like 808 basses, supersaw plucks, and 303 acid sounds. If you’d rather just use these classic sounds as starting points, each lesson also includes the preset Francis created in each video. He’s posting two or three free tutorial videos on YouTube every week.
