Spectrasonics Omnisphere 3 – a Major Update

The gold standard of synthesizers gains a long list of features and sounds

Spectrasonics’ popular Omnisphere software synth has long been the industry benchmark. It combines several different kinds of synthesis (and sampling), a big and versatile library of sounds, great effects, excellent sound quality, extensive MIDI control… and a huge list of useful features.

For me (NB), the best thing about it is how easy its interface is to understand. The closest analogy is a bicycle – you don’t forget how to ride it. You do still have to learn your filters and envelopes, of course, but there’s no “how do I get this to…” head-scratching.

Version 3 has a long list of additional features, and we refer you to their site for a full list. But in particular it’s the deeply sampled Blown Ostrich Egg that makes me yearn for it.

Well, that and MIDI Polyphonic Expression, the effects (all 35 of them can be used as plug-ins in your DAW), of course the new sounds, the ability to generate sound variations intelligently…

It’ll be available on October 21, 2025.

Prices: $499/399; upgrades $200
