The MIDI Association announces this year’s MIDI Innovation Awards live stream event taking place on 16 September 2023.

Now in their third year, the awards are a joint initiative created by Music Hackspace, The MIDI Association, and NAMM, created to showcase both products and projects using MIDI 1.0 and 2.0 in fresh and original ways and to highlight the role of MIDI technology in empowering musical creativity.

This year the MIDI Innovation Awards is proud to welcome new partners, including Sound On Sound, SynthFest UK, and Music China, offering musicians and inventors an even wider global stage to present their innovations.

The live stream will be hosted by composer/UX designer Martin Keary (aka Tantacrul) and British musician, synth maker, and author of the YouTube channel Look Mum No Computer, Sam Battle.

The show will highlight the innovative use of MIDI by all 15 finalists and feature interviews with an all-star panel of judges that includes Michele Darling, Assistant Chair of Electronic Production and Design at Berklee College of Music; Pedro Eustache, Venezuelan-born electronic woodwind soloist and composer; Jean-Michel Jarre, French composer and electronic music pioneer; Roger Linn, American engineer, musician, and inventor; Bian Liunian, musical director of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Closing Ceremony, and Nina Richards, electronic musician and synth hardware designer.

Winners will be announced, and all entries can be seen at the September 16 live stream event, broadcast from Tileyard Studios in London on The MIDI Association’s YouTube channel.

MIDI Innovation Award finalists will also be featured at SynthFest UK 2023 taking place in Sheffield, England on Saturday, October 7th 2023 (10:30am – 6:30pm) and at Music China in Shanghai on October 11-14.
