Watch Moogmentum in Place, a Fundraising Concert Series on Facebook

Tune in to Moogmentum in Place, an ongoing Facebook Live webcast of live music.

Until the end of May, the nonprofit Bob Moog Foundation is hosting a live, online performance series called Moogmentum in Place. It serves to raise funds for the Moogseum, which celebrates the life and achievements of pioneering synth designer Bob Moog. Located in Asheville, North Carolina, the museum is temporarily closed and its staff laid off because of coronavirus concerns. Donations will help the Moogseum get back on its feet when it reopens.

The series also benefits Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool, the foundation’s hallmark education project for teaching schoolchildren the science of sound. You can watch these concerts on the Bob Moog Foundation’s Facebook page

The first Moogmentum in Place performance took place on May 9th. It featured film composer and synthesist Alex Wurman, who scored the soundtracks for such films as March of the Penguins and Anchorman and television series such as Perpetual Grace LTD and Patriot. It was an exceptionally enjoyable and engrossing, intimate concert. For almost an hour, Alex played his music, discussed compositional techniques, and gave watchers a tour of his studio setup. Even if you missed the live show, you can still watch it in its entirety on Facebook.

You can also hear Alex play live on Facebook’s Alex Wurman Music page. He plays for half an hour on most nights at 10pm Eastern, 7pm Pacific time.

Coming Attractions

Moogmentum in Place’s second performance will take place on Friday, May 15th, at 7pm Eastern, 4pm Pacific. It will feature keyboardist Greg Phillinganes, who began his career playing and touring with Stevie Wonder when he was 19 years old. Since then, he has recorded with Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie, Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, and others too numerous. For the Moogmentum in Place event, Greg will play and be interviewed by Synth and Software contributor Jerry Kovarsky. Mark your calendar, because you won’t want to miss it.

On May 21st the following week, Moogmentum in Place puts the spotlight on former Earth, Wind & Fire keyboardist Larry Dunn, who will also sit down for an interview with Jerry. In the coming weeks, the series will host performances by theremin master Randy George on May 23rd and electro-acoustic violinist Martha Mooke on May 28th. The Bob Moog Foundation is also planning a virtual tour of the Moogseum. In the meantime, you can pay virtual visit to the Moogseum in the inaugural issue of Synth and Software.
